Course Overview
Did you know that 1 in 6 people has a hearing loss? This supportive
training incorporates a variety of learning activities to equip individuals to work alongside Deaf colleagues and provide a positive experience to Deaf customers.
This is a bespoke training session, where the content and length
(minimum 1.5 hours - maximum 6 hours) will be discussed with you and adapted to meet your organisation’s requirements. We can cover topics within the course content at different depths to suit your needs. There is also the opportunity for open questions, advice or signposting on individual situations.
Course Content
• Range of hearing loss and appropriate terminology
• Clear communication tactics
• Lipreading awareness
• Acoustic awareness
• Aids and equipment used by Deaf people
• Introduction to British Sign Language (BSL) and how it differs from English
• BSL greetings, alphabet and useful phrases
• Deaf culture, community and identity
• Improving access, inclusion and support for customers/employees with different needs
• Producing accessible written information or notes
• Working with interpreters
